52nd ANNUAL ICE FISHING SAFARI

Feb 10, 2018

Welcome to the 52nd Annual Ice Fishing Safari.  It looks like we will have ice this year.  As of today, 1/22/18, we have about 10-11inches of ice and the weather forecast looks good.  I hope we have a day where the temps are about 30-35 degrees bright sun and no wind.  That way the ground does not get muddy and it is not to cold.

We plan on having our usual ice games like bocce and ice golf.  The Connecticut  Golf team has dominated the last couple of years but I understand Brent has his team in tip top share for the opening round.  The bocce blocks are being made, the green ones are ready and the blue blocks are next.   For the seniors we may even have bocce sticks so they won’t have to get down on their knees to play.  We have 11 New Stars this year and I hope their sponsors have had them practicing their figure 8’s.

You may want to think about bring a lawn chair as I figure there will be about 70-75 guys this year.  Ms. Piggy will not be in attendance this year however, she is sending her fresh little brother and has requested that Tony Martone look after him for the day.  Thanks to Tom Wayland we will be having a new drink this year; hot mulled cider that can be spiked or had virgin.  Of course, we will have the usual beer and the ole reliable 3 and 1 oil.

On a sad note we will be adding 3 guys to the Oar this year (Fred Getner, Walter Wagner and Paul Hymers).  Although they may be gone in body they are with us in spirit, may they RIP.     If the bald eagle circles overhead again this year—well????

As always many thanks to Vinny for the cover, Jim for the web-site and chili, Al Florio for picking up the rolls, Andy and Ken for collections and all the cooks, Don Meteja, Tony Martone, and John Lemke just to name a few.   Thanks also to those who help with the set-up and clean-up and to all of you who do the extra things to make Safari a great event.   It is all about a great bunch of guys getting together.  Plus we'll have a special guest this year...someone who hasn't been here since the 3rd Safari...My old pal and partner in crime: Steve Brod!   If not for him I would not be living on this beautiful lake!

We have 11 New Stars and they will be under the direction of Ed Cohen.
